The Port of Rome: Arrival at Civitavecchia


This nice fountain and goldfish welcome you at the train station.  As you exit the station you can see the sea between the buildings across the street.  You can smell the sea in the air and feel the fresh temperature.  "Ah, il Mare Nostrum!"   

Sadly this town was about 90% bombed during the war and so there is not much left, but it still holds a lot of memories for some of us.  Once I met a guy who was there when it was bombed, Luciano, and he showed me the mirror that he saved by carrying it on his back to hide in the hills.
