Catholic Culture: Ball Season in Vienna

Mark your calendars.  The big Catholic event that some Rome students attend is the Rudolfina Redoute Ball which is held at the Imperial Palace (the Hofburg) where it has been held since 1927.  The Rudolfina Redoute Ball is said to be the oldest in Vienna and most steeped in tradition:  http://redoute.rudolfina.at/.

  1. Surely, if it's a ball, it's WHITE tie ?

  2. Sort yourself out, John! Read http://blacktieguide.com/ and learn to abhor tacky wing collars and wearing a suit vest with evening dress. (Also try out some Peterson's Sunset Breeze tobacco -- very nice!)

  3. Anonymous;

    sorry, but whilst I agree about not wearing day vests with Dinner Jackets, wing collars are de rigeur with evening wear - at least in Europe; I can't speak for the US.

    (Mind you, now I look, it also looks as though it's a ready-made tie; which is not good, either.)
