Catholic Culture: St. Sylvester Party (New Year's Eve Party)

Every December 31st.

Begin to call it a St. Silvester party, as did our ancestors.

December 31 is the feast of Pope St. Silvester I, Confessor, who baptized the Emperor Constantine the Great.

  1. In Germany, that day is (and has always been) called "Silvester".

"New Year's Eve" seems to be an invention from the english speaking world. :-)

Thanks for your blog. I enjoy reading it.
