In Tribute to the Sacristan

"At Rome, St. Abundius, sacristan of the Church of St. Peter."

-Roman Martyrology, April 14.

  1. Being a sacristan is no easy job. Above all in the sense of sanctification. When one is in constant contact with the sacred and with Our Lord, the temptation is to accustom oneself to it and treat it with a familiarity that is not one of a pious person. The same with MCs and the sort. If one is not careful, routine and banalities end up ruining the soul.

St. Therese once saw a shadow passing in front of the the Blessed Sacrament without makeing a reverence. She said "either it is the Devil or the sacristan."

May St. Abundius pray for us!
