What is Wrong with This Picture?

Entombed inside the historic altar they say are relics of Sts. Joachim and Anne.

Meanwhile, the tin cookie-cutter altar with plastic candles is what the laity get.

Ss. Gioacchino e Anna, pregate per noi.

Could it be that we in the Latin Church got it wrong with the absolute value put on "seeing" the priest facing the people?

  1. I can SEE the priest just fine when he faces the altar like he should be doing.

And when he faces the altar, he doesn't get in the way of my seeing Christ as well.

  3. The single most effective thing to restore solemnity and reverance to Mass is requiring and enforcing the Ad Orientem posture for Mass. It would cut the abuse in half instantly. I am convinced of that.
