  3. Benedict XVI is so gentle in pursuing his great task of restoring the HOLY in celebrations of the Mass.

In 1969 when Paul VI imposed his Novus Ordo which went far beyond the recommendations of the Vatican II Council - the firm discipline of the Catholic Church led all the bishops to follow his will despite the reluctance of some cardinals, many bishops, a very large number of priests and the distress and confusion of perhaps a majority of the faithful.

Benedict is clearly a realist who knows all too well that the power of the papacy has dwindled since those days and many of today's bishops feel free largely to ignore the Sucessor of Peter. So he is proceeding with what might be described as true Christian humility in making the Holy once again visible to all in the Catholic Church by encouraging true sanctity in the celebration of the Eucharist.

Mgr Pozzo is proving a key loyal follower of the pope, and from ecclesiastics who were recently in Rome I gather that the whole atmosphere at the Vatican is now far more favourable to the pope's great project.
And the demographics suggest that the rigid "progressives" - bishops and others - are beginning to retire or die off while a whole new generation in favour of the pope's 'hermeneutic of continuity' - including the restoration of Holiness in the liturgy - is coming up to replace them. Patience, not despair should be the watchword for those who love the Church.
