A wonderful spring day for the celebration on the edge of Rome amid spring flowers, sunshine and fresh air.

  1. "The Great"? How do you know? Stop inflating everything!

  2. I agree that he is The Great and I studied with him and I know him and I spoke to the Ukrainian bishops who elected him and I have heard him preach AND I told all this to John!

  3. Thank you for the backgorund info Castoro.

However, I also agree that John should stop inflating everything and refrain from adding "the Great" to just about every person featured on this blog. It really does 'water down' the meaning and powerfulness when someone reaches the stage of having "the Great" added to their name.

For example: Does His Beatitude Sviatoslav the Great = Pope John Paul II the Great = Pope Gregory the Great?

Having said all that, I am very grateful that John is keeping us informed of all the wonderful things happening in Rome! :)

  5. Quit complaining folks! Everything that I know about him is wonderful so far - he seems very vostochnik (he wrote his dissertation on Paul Evdokimov, who was a pretty solid Orthodox theologian), and best of all the first thing he did was ask Pope Benedict the Great to recognize his Patriarchate. Axios! Axios! Axios!
