Catholic Culture: Grandma's Recipes

Yesterday yours truly had egg nogg for the first time in 8 years!
Keep and maintain family traditions on and around religious holidays.
CHRISTMAS EGGNOG

6 egg whites
Dash of salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 pint chilled whipping cream
6 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 large bottle ginger ale

1. Beat egg whites and salt until stiff, but not dry; gradually beat in sugar.
2. Beat the chilled whipping cream until stiff.
3. In a large mixing bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and light; beat in second portion of sugar and the milk.
4. Stir chilled ginger ale into egg yolk mixture; fold in the egg white mixture and the cream.
5.Turn into a punch bowl and sprinkle with grated nutmeg. Makes 18 to 20 punch-cup servings.
NB: Rum or brandy may be substituted for part of the ginger ale.
