Montreal: St. Peter's Basilica of the New World (Cathedral of Marie-Reine-Du-Monde)

The genius of Catholic art, and design ethos.

  1. I visited the Cathedral-Basilica in 1994, the last time I was in Montreal. Glorious....

There was a notorious incident which happened in the early 1990s, on 'International Womens' Day': a mob of raging feminists invaded the Cathedral and started to trash the place. They yanked the cloth off the High Altar, and-more disgustingly-strewed used sanitary pads around inside.

The mob headed towards the Blessed Sacrament chapel, which was in the very back of the church, but a pair of brave male tourists (I think they were from the US) put themselves between the feminist horde and the Tabernacle, and kept the Blessed Sacrament from profanation.

  2. Very beautiful. It reminds me a a little bit of Rome.
