The Congregation of the Holy Cross staffs the Oratory of St. Joseph in Montreal.

  1. The Congregation of Holy Cross also founded and continues to staff the University of Notre Dame. Their order suffered much in the 60's-80's, but they have a new, rising generation of orthodox priests and seminarians who want to bring the order to its former glory.

They were truly a magnificent order in their hayday. At one point they had set up (without the benefit of email, phones, or google documents) a schedule whereby at every moment of every day, there was always a member of the Congregation praying before the Blessed Sacrament, at one of their foundations throughout the world. Many of them served as missionaries in India, Bangladesh, and Africa. St. André was their first saint, but their founder, Bl. Basile-Antoine Moreau, was also a remarkably holy man known for his devout loyalty to the Pope. The Pope asked that they wear the black cassock and Roman collar as part of their habit, to emphasize their connection with the Holy See; Bl. Basil enthusiastically obeyed. He was beatified on September 15, 2007 (the same day Summorum Pontificum went into effect).
