Sketching Catholic Images

  1. Can you explain why we have images of dragons in some churches? How come Pope Gregory XIII - the one who reformed the calendar and which we are currently using - has a dragon that symbolizes Satan (book of Revelation, 20) in his coat of arms? And how come there are images of dragons in the Vatican? Doesn't it contradict Catholic doctrine?

  4. The dragon comes from Pope Gregory's family coat of arms. If you do some research you might be able to find out why the Boncompagni family chose the dragon. One thing of note the dragon is often shown with a truncated tail. Also I'm curious to what "doctrine" applies to heraldry.
