What the Maniturgium Looks Like

  1. What is a maniturgium and when is it used? The photo reminds me of a gesture during the priestly Ordination.

  2. It was sometimes taken from the inner lining of the priest's mother's wedding dress.

  3. The maniturgium is used to wrap the hands of the newly-anointed priest/bishop. Tradition states that this cloth is placed in the hands of his mother when she is laid out for burial.
